Rain Sensor Program Requirements
- Rain sensor must be installed on an automatically controlled, in-ground sprinkler system that has been in operation for at least two years.
- Rain sensor must be installed by a participating contractor (pdf)
- Customers must pay installation costs above $50 and sales tax on all hardware and labor costs directly to the participating contractor. Total out-of-pocket costs will be different for each customer; ask your contractor for an estimate.
- Customers must provide the name of their water utility and account number to the participating contractor.
- Customers may elect to receive either a free rain sensor and $50 off installation OR a $75 rebate (see below). Customers may combine a free rain sensor with a controller rebate.

Rebate requirements
|
- The property must be served by a utility participating in the Saving Water Partnership.
- All work must be done by landscape or irrigation contractors licensed to do business in Washington State.
- Rebate applications and copies of receipts must be submitted within 90 days of project completion. Rebate applications must be received by Dec. 1, 2011.

- "Smart" sprinkler controllers include evapotranspiration (ET) controllers and soil moisture sensor systems. They automatically adjust the watering schedule in response to environmental conditions, resulting in significant water savings and improved plant health.
